The crypto markets are again red this morning as mainstream media FUD strikes again.
News published by Bloomberg today (and quickly propagated by news aggregate sources) that the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has sent subpoenas last week to Bitfinex and Tether.
This caused the markets to plunge, sending BTC back below $10000 USD.
However, shortly after publication news came out via NYT writer @nathanielpopper that the subpoena was actually sent almost 2 months ago on December 6th 2017.
I’ve confirmed that the CFTC did subpoena Bitfinex and Tether — though the subpoena was delivered on December 6, not last week, a source familiar with the matter told me. https://t.co/7dWhKLTwg2

Bloomberg news then went back and edited their original article without posting an update, see below.
Regardless of the timing of the subpoena, the market is clearly nervous regarding the Bitfinex/Tether situation and it seems likely that an audit will occur eventually. Whether this is another short term dip like earlier in January or not, only time will tell.
